Well so Divya's wedding over and now I guess everyone is waiting for January 6th when Meghu chechi gets married. I hope all u people had a great stay and a lot of fun in Coimbatore. Too bad I didn't get to stay in Cbe for too long .. didn't have enough leave. Hmmm. .. I'm putting up a few pictures now.. and will keep adding more when i get them....

So how was Onam?

My this years onam was quite a drag. Spent the day in office and my onasadya was a full plate of veg fried rice with some paneer dish!

Staring at the extra sweet food, I tried to console myself saying things like>>>
Its just another day ...
Onam is a hype created by media in Kerala..
Mahabali is mallu version of santa claus or vice versa (in the sense a myth)

none worked.. I just missed being in Kerala.. watching three 'BLOCK BUSTER' movies in a day and drinking three litrs of semya payasam....

Sigh! The day was terrible.. ehrm.... miserable

I was in Kerala, at home. Did not get payasam (amma had teeth ache she was rollin in bed... made her got to dentist she is ok now) and no movies on TV (saw aag for 35 bucks it would have cost me Rs. 200 in Bangalore!) but what the heck, I was with family and thats what mattered

So how was your onam?
Hope it was not as bad as mine ; D

Anju chechi hi.. good to be keeping in touch. Yeah gotta pull in some more people here..

Divya is planning to come back first or second week of september. But she's gotta get the approval from her manager so nothing has been finalised. I too am entertaining a trip to Dubai cos divi might come via dubai.. but as I said everything is still hanging in the air!!! Me at home now as I have to join work only on Dec 24... yes its the day after Divya's wedding... Poor me :(

Before the wedding we are planning to have a small get together in Cbe itself.. that'll be Friday the 21st of Dec. So if u guys can be there for that also it'll be nice.. cos we r inviting mostly only family for that n also very close friends. It'll be nice if especially we the next gen of Ningileri can b there!! :)

This is just an informal thing.. basically to have some fun.. so if u got any ideas for fun things to do let me know.. people who can sing n dance ur most welcome..

Our family being so huge, we often tend to miss out important dates, (b'days, anniversaries etc)
So I added a list of dates that Sreekumaran mama had sent me to the list.

There are more dates to be added so please send me date of birth, date of marriage of your family members in case it is missing in the calendar.

Sweating it Out!

Helllooo..... back in Dubai after a month's vacation in Calicut. Didnt do any visiting as it was pouring all the time. Needless to say, when it stops pouring, u start pouring - with sweat due to humidity. Visited Coorg and it was chilly there. Extreme climates everywhere. Dubai is blazing hot. Temperatures between 40 and 45 deg C, anything but pleasant!

Hari, really cool of you to post. If you are in touch with any other kids in our family, please yank them all to this blog. It feels good to keep in touch, see pics... Looking forward to meeting you all in Dec/Jan.

Mom, Dad are in Dubai for the month of August. Meghu will be visiting for a week (visa renewal).

What are Onam plans this month? When exactly is Onam? Aug 27/28? Hope to hear from more people soon...

How about pbwiki?

I think I am one of the last people to have heard of pbwiki, and now that I have seen it i am having mixed feelings of hosting the blog here. Why don't we use the wiki page as a blog as well?
Wiki offers an opportunity for anyone to login using just a password(password is tharavad )
and add any material they want.
I have made a dummy wiki page, tell me what you guys think.

From this side well i've jus finished my engineering and am waiting for my call up to join Cognizant Technologies in Chennai. Jus putting my feet up for now.
Guess the next big event is Divya's wedding on the 23rd of December. Spoke to her couple of days back.. She's bit busy... The official news is that she should be here by the first week of September :) .. . The wedding will be at Ramakrishna Kalyana Mandapam in Coimbatore. And as Anju chechi said all those who are yet to make plans ..... Quick!!! Those who weren't here for the engagement on the 27th of November 2006 u can take a look at some of the pictures.

New generation - Settling down

Renju, Divya and Meghu - three people i know who are tying the know or have tied the knot this year.

I just saw Renju's 'hardcopy' marriage & reception photos yesterday at Meena aunty's place, Calicut. Very beautiful. He and wife, Praveena got married on 16 April 2007 and are currently settled in Trivandrum.

Meghu's Engagment to Sujit Sekhar took place in Mumbai on 17 June 2007. The links have been provided by Balu. The professional photographs are available at the following link.

Divya (Dr. Sreedevi's and Dr. Ramachnadran's daughter) is getting married to Anupam on 23 December 2007. She is currently in Greece, on assignment. Will be resigning and coming down to India in October or so. So all those planning to visit India in Dec/Jan will have a double treat - Divya's marriage in Dec and Meghu's approx 2 weeks later. All others with no plans as yet, please make plans!

Meghu's wedding is technically next year :) The wedding will take place in Azhakodi Hall, Calicut on Sunday, 6 Jan 2008.

Sreekumar Uncle and family visited Australia, NZ this May-June 2007. Photos have been provided by Geeta Aunty (NZ), Vichu Uncle (Sydney, AUS) and Sreekumar Uncle (LA, USA).

What other news...... my update on UAE. Boiling Hot Climate! Somu uncle and Sukumar uncle and their families are there. Vacations going on. Suraj is visiting Sharjah. Soumya was there for a month. Will be returning to Coimbatore today. She is doing her final year Engineering. Smitha (Chummu) is in Madras. Suraj, Smitha have finished their engineering and are in the process of job hunting. Many, many bachelors in town - Prasannan Uncle, Surendran uncle, Jithu, Mahesh etc. Must be enjoying life in spite of the heat, except Jithu (newly married). O, another marriage this year :)

That reminds me, another marriage i know of - Bhavani Valliamma and Narayan Valliachan's son Murali got married in May sometime, i think.

Thats the update from my end, everyone. Please contribute news and photos from your ends. Looking forward to more activity on our ningileri site.

O yes and Balu, heard u r Sub-editor now! Congratulations! I dont know how you manage your work and this site, but this is going great.

When I took up the responsibility for the site and the blog I did not in my wildest dreams imagine I will be without a net connection and that work would be so hectic that I would 'forget' my family.. sob sob well that is what has happened.
But I do not intend to let things stay that way.

Its all about looks

Yes! i know what needs to be changed!
No it wasn't the contents but yes the way they are placed on a page... I may want to read on history of ningileri once but not every time i open the site! So I needed to make the main page (index page) an index page and not history page

The main problem with googlepage creator is that one is limited to work within the few but excellent tools provided. It doesn't make it possible for one to insert tables which was quite restricting and for layout one had to follow the templates given by Google.

It was keeping these problems in mind that i decided to make a new template in Adobe Dreamweaver. The software is simple as long as one understand the basic HTML. the tools are plenty and only thing you need to have is resources in form of pictures, text, some java script which is available on net and flash files if necessary.

It took a week for the site to be made again, that's a lot of time considering its just a few pages and the ready availability of information. I uploaded it immediately but didnt want to replace the old ste with this one yet! I wasnt fully convinced, there were few bugs. It took another week and finally its on : )

Adding fuel to fire

Once the fire was lit it was necessary to keep it burning as well. To bring around certain level of interactivity which will make the site fully functional. Basically we needed to add fuel to the fire. It came in the form of suggestions and ideas from the family itself.

Unni ammavan mailed me and asked me to insert a feedback form on the page so that it will be easier to keep the site updated and easier than asking people to mail to an id. That suggestion was a trigger and it made me put in a message board, google calendar, feedback form and later even add a blog later on.

These add ons made the site look more balanced than I had imagined initially; but wasn't a success as the response kept coming through mail and not on the site...

At this stage I was forced to rethink the site.... I needed to change something.. what should it be?

Meghna Ayiliath's Engagement

I am writing in to announce Meghu's engagement and wedding.

Meghna Ayiliath, D/o NT Unnikrishnan and A Vasantha is getting engaged to Sujit Somasekharan, S/o V Somasekharan and Lalitha in Mumbai on Sunday, June 17, 2007.

Sujit is working for Standard Chartered in Dubai. His parents are based in Mumbai.

The wedding is scheduled for Sunday, January 6, 2008. It will take place in Calicut, Kerala.

Bonfire

Well making a fire from the spark was no big deal with lots of dry wood available in form of google page creator and lots of free add ons on net...

The reason I called the site a bonfire was because it was intended to act like one, a bonfire around which family could just sit around and enjoy the warmth of the fire; in the freeze of alienation in this world.

So i threw in a few dry logs from the old site (the text which i just copy+pasted)

Then I put in some hay in form of extra pages; to which I added a google calendar & finishing touch came in form of esnips widget on clicking which, user will be taken to an esnips account in which family pictures have been added

The Spark

It wasn't the toughest thing to do; nor was it the easiest all it demanded was spending of some quality time with one's computer which I didn't mind spending.

And what made me initiate it? Well... hmmm.. ya! I remember.. it was a boring Sunday. I had nothing to do. It was too hot to go out with friends. There were no assignments; college books looked too heavy to even glance at on such a day. As usual I turned to my homepage google.com and as I thought what to search on; I realised I had never read anything about my family on the net! So I gave a try & the search took me to the ningileri site which Unni ammavan had made in Tripod.com.

I didn't like tripod.com but i liked the site and its contents. But there was something stale about it.... Something that made the site look untouched... I wanted to change it.. I wanted to make a site where anything could be changed any time i wanted it to be; a site which functioned like a news portal for the family, another way to stay in touch than just a collection of web pages talking about our family.

Then after a while I stumbled upon googlepages. I like everything google but googlepages I loved it.
